Trust Us - This Under £20 Product Is The Antidote To Dull Hair

There has definitely been a spike in new celebrity beauty lines of late, specifically haircare brands. While we’re used to new ranges popping up from celebs and models, the latest wave of brand launches are all from established professionals with one name in particular standing out above the rest: Jonathan Van Ness. Known for zhuzhing tresses and sassily flicking his own gorgeous shoulder-length locks on Netflix’s Queer Eye, Jonathan isn’t just playing the part of a hairstylist – he is one. With 15 years as a salon and session stylist to his name, he is one of the rare celebrities who really understands what a client needs and how to achieve it. I’ve been a big JVN fan for a long time, loving his warm personality, body-positive outlook, gymnast moves, and all-around fabulous approach to life so I was expecting to like his JVN products when they finally launched at Space NK. However, I never expected to be repeat-buying shampoos and itching to know what the next release might be.

 As a range, it’s as inclusive as you might expect catering for fine hair, curly hair, you name it – plus, it’s all vegan so everyone can get in on the action. They’re affordably priced and, most important of all, they genuienly work. But there’s one new product that might just eclipse everything that’s come before it, and that’s the new JVN Nourishing Shine Drops. As someone with fine hair that can barely make it to the second day post wash, I used to avoid anything containing the word shine, oil or nourishment lest it leave my hair looking greasy and lank. However, following years of balayage and heat styling, I’ve come to understand the need for help beyond a conditioner and have chopped and changed products for hydration without the icky side effects – but nothing has come close to this. Nourishing Shine Drops is a styling oil that can be used during a blow-dry for added heat protection and shine, or on dry hair to add gloss and reduce frizz (by a whopping 96% no less). Far from being thick and heavy, it feels satin soft and melts easily into the strands without leaving any sticky leftovers on your hair or your hands.

The impressive results are mostly down to one salon-grade ingredient, hemisqualine. Featuring in every one of the collection’s formulas, hemisqualane is a lightweight and non-sticky natural alternative to silicone that has been derived from sustainably sourced sugarcane. Just like the squalene you might find in skincare, it’s super hydrating thanks to its ability to immediately penetrate each strand. However it’s the meadowfoam ester – an ingredient unique to the Shine Drops – that goes the extra mile to lock in moisture and add instant gloss and shine. Coloured hair types will also be thrilled about the inclusion of hibiscus extract to protect hair from colour fading and damage.
