Controversial opinion: I think January is a seriously underrated month. While it may contain the most depressing day of the year – Monday 16th for anyone asking – I prefer to see it as an opportunity to put myself first. With my mince pie obsession finally worn off and a festive season where we made others our priority now passed, there’s really no better time to take a moment and recentre before our diaries begin to fill up again. For some, this takes the form of New Year’s resolutions. But rather than pile on unnecessary pressure, I prefer to take a slower, kinder approach by practicing acts of self-care. Doing those things that make me feel genuinely good, rather than restrictive, and revelling in the change of pace so I can get myself into a good mental and physical space for the months ahead.
TLC takes on many guises but right now, for me, it’s all about finding gentle ways to boost my mood. Choosing yoga over gruelling gym workouts. Replacing my festive room spray with a fresh citrus scented candle. Indulging in long evening baths with a good book. I’m also taking this time to get my skincare back on track after a season of excess and experimenting with new products to kickstart my routine – and I already have my eye on plenty of luxe beauty treats to help get me started.
