It’s Decided – This M&S Jean Is Spring’s Hottest Denim

Can you believe that the debate around skinny jeans is still raging on? It’s been a hot minute since Gen Z and the rest of its TikTok-toting pals first dissed skinny jeans – and had a swipe at side partings, winged eyeliner and several other styles that millennials hold dear. I want to start this by saying that just because figure hugging skinny jeans have been cast aside by the younger generation doesn’t mean that you have to listen to them – I will never part with mine. Trends are notoriously cyclical and it’s only a waiting game until drainpipes are the denim du jour.

But, there’s no denying that millennials should take note - these skinny naysayers may well be right when it comes to the jeans department this season. There are so many excellent cuts that it would feel wrong not to explore them a little – particularly ahead of a new season. Gone are the super-slims and in their place wide legs, straight cuts and niche fits - cigarette, carrot, flares – that make a wardrobe staple feels fresh and new for spring. Cut high on the waist for definition, with a leg-lengthening straight cut that stops just short of your shoes, the Sienna Smart Jeans aren’t your usual style of off-duty denim. These are smart. Really smart. The kind of smart you can wear to a big meeting. The rinsed indigo wash is impressively sophisticated but it’s the permanent crease down the front that gives the tailored feel. I’d almost say they were anti-casual, if I didn’t know they’d look so brilliant with a tucked-in baggy tee and white trainer. Quite simply, these are the new it jean – as proven by number of people M&S lets you know have purchased in the last 24 hours. Not surprising when they’re made using sustainable BCI certified cotton (as is the rest of the M&S spring denim collection) and cost £39.50.
