What To Wear On A Summer Date If You’re A Man

Whether you're going out for dinner or having an al fresco picnic in the park, we've got the best men's date outfit for every romantic occasion.

There’s nothing quite as novel as a summer romance. The bright blue skies and cheerful sunny rays can even make a 5 year relationship seem like a shiny new fling, one in which the pre-date rituals last much longer than usual. A little extra time scrubbing in the shower, spending more time shaving your face and shaping your hair in the mirror, slapping on some SPF and, probably most tedious of all, deciding on what to wear. The sentiment behind ‘dress to impress’ can feel a little tougher to achieve than usual when you've got the heat to contend with, and really only fancy wearing swimshorts and sunnies. But poolwear does not an impressive date outfit make so, to ensure you get your better half hot under the collar but also keep cool under yours, here are some great summer date looks that stray from mundane and show off your style, no matter what you’re doing.

Park Picnic

When the sun is out and the wind is at bay, a picnic in the park accompanied by your partner, some snacks and lots of wine is a patent summer date that exemplifies classic romance. Play on the element of ‘old fashioned’ by wearing a staple look that never goes out of style: a white t-shirt and beige chino shorts. Be sure to pair with a jacket in case you (or your date) get a little chilly, a pair of trainers, and bring along a small blanket so you’ll have something between you and the itchy grass.

Rooftop Bar

One of those seasonal specialities we can’t get enough this time of year would have to be the abundance of rooftop bars. Plus, they make a perfect summer date spot. Of course, they vary in their requirements for formality, but a striped t-shirt is something that looks right in almost any setting. Paired with linen suit trousers, a matching blazer in case of an evening breeze, and a pair of slip-on trainers you’ll be ready to drink and gaze at the city-scape for as long as you please.

Mini-Golf

Another classic ‘can’t go wrong’ kind of date for the summer, a mini-golf date is the perfect mix of cute and a little cheesy. Put a refined spin on the cheesiness by wearing a short sleeve shirt with a funky print, like hawaiian floral, paired with a neutral navy pair of shorts and white lace-up trainers.

Food Festival

We’ve already been through what to wear to a festival before, but this is a different kind of festival. Going to a food festival or a market in the summertime with your beloved is a sweet and scrumptious way to spend time together. For the casually adorable affair, wear a graphic cotton t-shirt with a pair of straight fit jeans and plimsolls.

Dinner and a Show

Amongst all the other dates, this is the one you should look a little smarter for. Put a modern summer twist on the vintage type of date by wearing a striped linen blend suit with a grandad collared white short-sleeve shirt and beige loafers.
